Mr Paul GÖTTKE

Secretary General of the German Bundestag

Paul Göttke has worked in various roles within the German Bundestag since 2005 and thus has many years’ experience in Parliament. He began his career on the staff of a parliamentary group and subsequently became the head of a Member’s office.

At the end of 2006 he joined the Bundestag Administration as a senior officer in the Europe Division.

In 2011 Mr Göttke moved to work for the Parliamentary Secretaries of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group in the German Bundestag. Mr Göttke provided support for the First Parliamentary Secretary on the Parliamentary Oversight Panel. He was also responsible for overall coordination of EU affairs in the parliamentary group.

In 2015 Mr Göttke was appointed Head of the Office of the First Parliamentary Secretary, and thus became responsible for preparing the cross-party coordination processes for conducting plenary sittings and, in particular, meetings of the Council of Elders. He was also in charge of planning and accompanying parliamentary legislative procedures in line with the Rules of Procedure.

In 2021 Mr Göttke became Deputy Head of the CDU/CSU Parliamentary Group’s Office. This included overseeing the group’s parliamentary services, making him deputy chief administrator of the parliamentary group and its more than three hundred staff members.

Paul Göttke was born on 14 February 1980. He is Roman-Catholic, married and the father of two children. In 2004 he completed his degree in political science with minors in public law and modern history at the University of Bonn.
